There is a reason you ended up in the profession you are in…
Because you are driven and caring, and a person committed to others. But unfortunately, you are operating in a broken system and oftentimes you are forced to give everything of yourself for the good of the patients. We as a society are not adequately supporting our healthcare workers; this was true before the pandemic and it is even more evident today.
You don’t have to suffer alone.
Working in healthcare might leave you feeling:
-Burnt out, like you have nothing left to give
Angry at your managers, your coworkers, your patients…just about everybody
Unable to form meaningful relationships or staying with toxic ones
Anxious at what the day will bring and how you will manage the unreasonable demands that are placed on you
Uncertain about your future
You do not have to deny yourself for the sake of your patients. You are a person too, and your needs matter.
Having worked in the healthcare system for 10 years, I understand both how challenging and rewarding this line of work can be. I have experienced the life-affirming highs and the completely devastating lows of patient care. While there might not be an answer to fixing our healthcare system, there are opportunities to improve your coping so that you may have the quality of life that you deserve.
